Rock Band Game Wins Game Critics Awards

Known for introducing gamers to their other top selling game, Guitar Hero, the creative geniuses at MTV and Harmonix have outdone themselves yet again with the new Rock Band game. Their newest entry into the music and rhythm genre is going to do a bit more than just "rock" the gaming industry. Each Rock Band game comes with a standard guitar package as well as microphone and drummer kits. Developed to be more than just a game, Rock Band encourages players to develop and improve their performances on several levels. It is opening the door to a whole new level of gaming experience ... and the critics seem to agree.

One of the most recent gaming award conventions held was the E3 Media and Business Summit. Thirty-five panelists rated each of the games and then voted. After all was said and done, and with a record-breaking five category nominations, Rock Band Game earned their "Best of Show" award for its overall performance as well as two other awards for Best Social/Casual/Puzzle game and Best Hardware/Peripheral. Not bad for a first-timer! Its predecessor, Guitar Hero, was so busy trying to play catch up with the Rock Band video game, it wound up with only one nomination in the Best Social/Casual/Puzzle category. And lost that one to Rock Band.

Although Rock Band missed out on the British BAFTA awards earlier this year, there is always hope for next year. Having already won the E3 Awards, it will be very interesting to watch how Rock Band does with the 2007 Spike TV Video Game Awards next month. This innovative game has been nominated in the Best Rhythm Game, Breakthrough Technology, Best Soundtrack and Best Multiplayer Game categories. Okay, so it is only up for an award in four categories, but it's creator, Harmonix, has been nominated for Best Studio, so that should count for five!

With being nominated in so many categories and already having won the awards it already has, it will be exciting to see the way Rock Band Game will evolve over the course of the next year. What will be even more interesting will be to see what Harmonix will come up with next in it's incredible gaming bag of tricks. Stay tuned.
